Despacio Experience Returns to III Points Miami After 2 Years
Blending the spirit of New York disco with the pulse of acid house, Despacio returns to III points, an audiophile’s dream powered by vinyl, analog warmth, and a 50,000-watt wall of sound.
Since its world debut in 2013, Despacio has stood as a one-of-a-kind sound system and immersive listening experience for festival goers around the globe. Originally envisioned as a single night in Ibiza, the concept quickly evolved into a traveling celebration of sound and community that’s since appeared at some of the world’s most renowned festivals.
Made in collaboration with LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and powered by McIntosh, Despacio sends a statement intended to “preserve, promote and celebrate tradition of pure live music” according to Insomniac, an electric music event promoter company that runs festivals like III Points Miami.
Mohamed, 27 travelled from New York to experience Despacio.
“It’s a show worth following. Something about the stage being replaced by a huge disco ball in the center of the room feels like we’re honoring music” he says.
The disco ball replaces the stage as the focal point. Suspended above the dancefloor, it reflects light in every direction. The DJ’s blend into the crowd, letting music take the center stage.
John Klett, right-hand man and the designer of Despacio, engineered the towering 50,000-watt sound system from custom-built McIntosh amplifiers and hand-crafted cabinets. Designed for vinyl-only playback, every detail was fine-tuned to deliver a true 360-degree sonic experience.
In an interview for Music Tech Magazine, John Klett says, “Humans are about 70 percent water. So I suggested that if we had a thousand leather bags, we could fill them up with water, then hang them on racks all over the dancefloor to tune the room and hear how it would sound if it were people.”
He elaborates.
“Because the dancers are part of the experience, part of our acoustical treatment, they make the sound system sound better.”
Moses, 28, also travelling from New York, says there’s no better way to spend his birthday.
“I’ve been a fan since they brought Despacio to New York in 2020. This is now my third time experiencing their show.”
Rey, 27, from Chicago, says “I don’t normally chase specific DJ sets. I mostly come to festivals to spend quality time with friends. Despacio changed that for me. I cried when they closed to ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by The Beatles.”
From the towering 50,000-watt sound system to the disco ball taking the center stage, every detail of Despacio is designed to create a fully immersive, communal experience. As MusicTech magazine put it, “Despacio manages to offer an unrivaled sonic experience, pleasing geeks and ravers in equal measure.”
